Varun Dhawan(born 24 April 1987) is an Indian actor who appears inBollywoodfilms. The son of film directorDavid Dhawan, he studied Business Management from theNottingham Trent Universityafter which he worked as an assistant director toKaran Joharon the 2010 dramaMy Name Is Khan. Dhawan made his acting debut with Johar's 2012 romantic comedyStudent of the Year, a box office success, for which he received aFilmfarenomination forBest Male Debut. In 2014, he played leading roles in the comediesMain Tera HeroandHumpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, both of which were commercially successful. The following year, Dhawan played an avenger inSriram Raghavan's crime thriller Badlapur.

Alongside his acting career, Dhawan performs on stage and has co-hosted two award ceremonies. In 2013, he performed at the Filmfare,Screen, andStardustawardceremonies, and at an event inHong Kong.[28]He hosted the 2013 Stardust Awardsceremony with Sidharth Malhotra andAyushmann Khurrana, and a segment of the59th Filmfare Awards.[29]He was also part of the20th Screen Awards, co-hosting the show alongsideShahrukh KhanandRicha Chadda.[30]In 2013, Dhawan performed at a special event alongside Malhotra, Alia Bhatt,Aditya Roy Kapur,Shraddha KapoorandHuma Qureshito raise funds for the flood-affected victims of Uttarakhand.
